Item Description

Deeply colored, intense erythrite crystals with a semimetallic luster, in a 2.3 cm cluster atop matrix, make this a striking miniature. Aside from its pedigree, it?s a superb display miniature. But the pedigree is nice, too. It belonged to collector, author, and general incredible mineral guy John Sinkankas of San Diego. It is illustrated in his book, perhaps the most famous Mineralogy book for the hobbyist of all time, Mineralogy for Amateurs (1964). It then was in the well-known collection of George Holloway for many years. Although material has again been found here in modern times, this old find set the standard and, to my mind, still does. Valued $1500. Photo below shows copy of the relevant page from Sinkankas book, Mineralogy for Amateurs (1964).
