Item Description

The famous Tae Wha mine in Korea has produced some very attractive Tungsten minerals. The Scheelites and Ferberites from this mine are some of the most classic examples of their respective species. This specimen hosts a group of fine quality, sharp, lustrous, "sword"-shaped jet black color crystals of Ferberite measuring up to 5.0 cm long free of matrix. The crystals are all in excellent condition on their respective terminations, but there is a slight contact on the underside where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. The material was formerly referred to as Wolframite, but it's all Ferberite now. A great small cabinet display specimen from this storied locality that dates back decades. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
