Item Description

Panasqueira is one of the more classic "modern" European localities. It has produced some of the most iconic Apatites in the world, along with gorgeous specimens of Ferberite which in my mind are some of the most beautiful examples of the species in the world. Here we have a cluster of sharp, very lustrous, jet-black, thick bladed crystals of Ferberite (the label refers to them as Wolframite) free of matrix. The front / display side is well-crystallized and virtually undamaged, but it is contacted on the top / back sides, so it's not completely damage free. It's still really attractive and actually sits wonderfully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4220). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
