Item Description

A fascinating and VERY RARE quartz combination from an unknown Governador Valadares pegmatite. A fantastically shaped floater pristine terminated gemmy quartz crystal is shot through with schorl needles and is artistically accented by the well-placed 6 mm schorl embedded on an upper face. Every turn and twist highlights different areas of the striking multitudes of glassy and lustrous crystal faces. A RARE bonus is the 2 mm yellow-brown helvine octahedron included in the quartz just above the large schorl crystal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5309 and acquired in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A dramatic, perhaps unique quartz combination from Minas Gerais.
