Item Description

A wonderful matrix example of these classic old Apatites from the Cerro de Mercado Mine. This miniature sized piece features a classic, sharp, lustrous, GEM QUALITY, euhedral, prismatic crystal of Apatite white grey-white Quartz on matrix.. The Apatite crystal measures 1.6 cm long and has that distinctive greenish yellow color that is a hallmark of this locality. These specimens are not nearly as common on the market as they were about 25+ years ago, and are certainly some of the most eye-catching crystals of Apatite from any locality in the world. It's important to note that matrix specimens from this mine are incredibly hard to find these days, and most of what you see is loose singles off matrix. This piece would make a nice additional to a gem crystal suite, a collection of Mexican minerals, or worldwide Apatites. Despite a little bit of roughness around the termination of the Apatite, this is a good quality specimen of this renowned Mexican material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5423). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
