Item Description

Apatite specimens are RARE, in general, from the numerous pegmatites in Madagascar. Intergrown, rounded, hexagonal, pistachio-green crystals have waxy luster, translucence and have a striking biomorphic look in one orientation! The cavities add pizzazz. This fine apatite has a strongly rounded aspect, suggesting this uncommon piece is alluvial (rounded by river forces) in nature. It strongly resembles a piece of fine jade! It glows, when backlit. RARE, old-time material from the Kay Robertson Collection and acquired in July, 1964. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 33 grams mass.
