Item Description

I've only seen a handful of Apatites from the Morro Velho Mine, and to the best of my knowledge, they were all mined in the early 1970s and never found again. This piece features a 1.5 cm wide group of translucent, lustrous, soft pink colored tabular Fluorapatite sitting among compressed rhombohedra of greenish colored Siderite. The green Siderites are classic for the locality, but the association with pink Apatite is exceedingly rare, and highly sought after by collectors. Excellent condition all around, with very little damage. Priced at $700 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6075). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
