Fluorite

Item Description

This well known mine has produced copper throughout antiquity; and after being rediscovered in 1945 has been mined for Fluorite for 50 years until is closure in 2006. This piece is a perfect example of the famous blue Fluorites that have been produced from the main Fluorite vein. It is characterized by its sharp form, glassy luster, sky blue color and spectacular darker blue phantoms. The large stepped-growth single crystal measures 7.4 cm on edge and has subtle growth hillocks on the faces with associated glistening microscopic quartz. The majority of the edge's rough surfaces have been recrystallized with the only visible imperfection being one slightly bruised corner. The two main highlights of these Fluorites are the dazzling color and alternating blue and clear zoning that stands out especially with a bright light. Ex.
