Densely intergrown fluorite cubes, to 3.3 cm, accented with striking stepped-growth faces compose this sculptural large mounded two-generation fluorite specimen. The second generation coating of matte lustre deep purple makes the cubes appear to be nearly opaque. However, modest bruising and periphery wear reveal these cubes are actually gemmy/translucent with purple interiors. Ex Al Kidwell Collection. Al purchased this piece from well-known Arkansas quartz dealer, Ocus Stanley, who died in 1989. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist for Exxon. He passed away in 2008. The Phosphate Kidwellite is named for him. Most of the mines in the area were closed by the 1950s or 1960s. Classic, very fine and rare large hard to get older fluorite from Rosiclare.
