Item Description

A sculptural and impressive small cabinet fluorite and quartz combination from recent finds at the Surprise Mine of the Cookes Peak District. A striking, artistic, 360-degree, 3.0 cm cluster of drusy quartz-covered fluorite octahedrons is dramatically set on an earlier generation of intergrown color-zoned cubes. The translucent, satin lustre, gray-blue cubes, to 1.8 cm, have subtle purple cores. Purple fluorescence. The octahedral fluorites have been reinforced. Ex Chris Cowan Collection, a New Mexico specialist, who has collected at the locale. See the excellent article on the Cookes Peak District in a recent 2019 issue of Rocks & Minerals. Specimens are uncommon from the District and this is an exceptional and aesthetic example with distinctively different fluorite crystal styles.
