Fluorite - 'Alien Eye' Pocket

"Alien Eye Fluorites" from a single discovery in 2007 are one of the Holy Grails of fluorite collecting by many, and of course among all mineral collecting even by those who do not only specialize in fluorite. Only a few small pockets of these exceptional crystals were found and this style has not been found again since. They came out in 2007 and were in demand and their limited number were distributed widely and quickly. They only become available as old collections recycle, as in this exceptional Pohl Collection small cabinet piece. We have handled several of the best over the years, including a few of the big ones (by the way, the largest known specimen from the pocket resides even now, in Dallas). However, Erika Pohl had a huge interest in African minerals and her scouts were everywhere. She had a friend with a direct source in Namibia apparently buying these for her as soon as they showed up and was able to purchase a selected size suite of specimens before they were available on the market. This large, transparent to very translucent, sharp single crystal shows dramatic green and purple phantoms! The interior of the crystal is dominated by a very bright, richly saturated green core that appears to be largely octahedral in shape with the corners overgrown by a rich dark purple-blue zone at the corners. A 3 to 4 mm thick very pale green zone prevails at the periphery of the crystal that sets sets off the gorgeous piece. This stunning crystal is dominated by the cube form on the exterior with with minor octahedral modifications. This is arguably one of the most impressive styles of Fluorite that has ever been produced...anywhere! The color, pattern, and geometry combine to create a startling overall appearance. This crystal is pristine and is complete all around - it is a perfectly balanced crystal with perfectly balanced zoning, and in a good size. This is one of those "last chance" kinds of items to obtain, that almost never will turn up for sale again in a generation.
