Item Description

A showy, rich and colorful combination plate from this well-known extinct fluorite mine. Intergrown, glassy, lustrous and translucent bottle-green fluorite cubes, to 3.5 cm, are richly and preferentially coated with iron oxide-tinted, saddle-shaped dolomite rhombs. The green cubes are further enhanced by red iron oxide inclusions in the crystal edges. The green color is classic for the locale and the cubes light up, when back lit. A very fine and aesthetic combination. Purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3120 and acquired in the 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A classic combination from the Cacilia Mine.
