Fluorite (gem octohedron)

A trio of colorful and tightly intergrown lustrous, transparent to translucent, blue and purple Fluorite octahedrons comprise this lovely miniature from a highly unusual African locality: Timahdit, Morocco. Although a more obscure Moroccan Fluorite occurrence, it has produced a variety of colors and forms of Fluorite, including rarely such gemmy octahedrons! This stunning piece features intergrown, essentially parallel growth, Fluorite octahedrons to 3.3 cm on edge. The color and zoning on this pair is simply impressive with a beautiful medium blue body embellished with distinctly rich purple corners! Octahedral crystals, especially of this color combination, are rare from El Hammam. The crystals are sharply formed and in excellent condition with only one small corner chip and contacting on the bottom where it was removed from the pocket. This locality has produced some unusual and very showy Fluorite specimens and this piece certainly qualifies.
