Item Description

This cave locality above the Seealp Lake (Seealpsee) was once open for collecting, but it now part of a nature preserve, and collecting is strictly forbidden. With that said, specimens are seldom available on the market, and pieces with this kind of color are certainly hard to find. Now, like most Fluorites, this piece looks better in sunlight than indoor light as it's a light blue tone indoors, but it shows a rich greenish-blue color in the sun. The cubes are rather gemmy and well-formed, measuring up to 1.4 cm on edge. Most of the crystals are in good condition, though there are some contacts. If you look closely, you can see thin dodecahedral modifications along the edges of the cubes. A great piece for anybody who collects Fluorites or European minerals due to the good color of the crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2858). The label accompanying the piece mentions page 349 of a mineral book by Parker (possibly Steve Parker) where I assume a reference to this material or the locality. that Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
