Item Description

A beautiful miniature display specimen of Fluorite from Madoc. The crystals are cuboctahedral in habit and are gemmy when backlit. Interestingly, the crystals will shift in color from a strong green hue to a medium sky blue color and will show a purple tone in certain lighting. We had to play with a lot of light sources of varying temperatures, but we were able to view all three colors in person. In addition to the rare multi-color-change crytals, they also show very interesting "wispy" internal inclusions, which gives them a unique internal appearance, not unlike the stripes of a tiger or zebra. The largest crystal measures 3.0 cm across. The piece is in very good shape from the display side, with typical spots on the periphery where it is not complete because of where it was removed from the pocket. This is rare for Madoc material, and a must have for any Fluorite collector. Good quality all around, with only a few superficial nicks, and better looking in person. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6790). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $750.
