Item Description

Purple fluorite is RARE from this ancient and famous extinct German lead-fluorite mining district. Most fluorite from here is various shades of green or yellow. Tightly intergrown dark purple to violet stepped-growth cubes have shimmering waxy luster faces and look opaque. The faces look like a geometric Modern Art painting. Back lighting reveals, that the edge cubes have pretty blush-purple color and translucence. A nodule of amber fluorite is embedded in the massive matrix. Purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9833 and acquired from the Lidstrom's in January, 1983. Comes with a faded and torn century-old Ward's label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A fine and rare color old-time fluorite varietal valued at $950.
