Fluorite on Amethyst (rare locality specimen) (ex David Burgess Collection)

Fluorite and Amethyst are by no means rare minerals, but it's quite difficult to find the two together from the Reed's Gap Quarry. This locality is known for producing attractive Fluorite crystals in a good range of colors, but one does not often see Fluorite on Amethyst like this. Dozens of very sharp, lustrous, gemmy, soft green colored octahedra measuring up to 7 mm across are sitting atop a layer of gentle lavender colored Amethyst with a bit of associated golden Calcite on basalt matrix. A nice association piece from this lesser known trap rock quarry located on the border with Wallingford and Durham that would make a nice addition to any New England suite or worldwide Fluorite or Quartz collection. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
