Item Description

A superb, aesthetic and RARE old-time fluorite and quartz combination from this well-known old Hardin County mine. Quartz, in itself, is uncommon in fine collector quality specimens from Hardin County, with most pieces coming from the W.L. Davis-Deardorff Mine. An impressive 4.3 x 4.2 cm deep purple fluorite cube has high luster, striking dense stepped-growth frosted faces and gorgeous areas of beautiful rich violet translucence under bright light. The cube is jauntily set on the undulating matrix covered with contrasting sprays of sparkly quartz points. A dramatic accessory is the VERY RARE dramatically placed 2.1 cm doubly terminated quartz crystal. Mined calculated in the 1950s and formerly Ken and Jane Schoeline Collection. The Deardorff was considered to be The specimen mine of this period in Southern Illinois. Ex Ross Lillie Collection # 0091. Ross's handwritten note on one of his three labels with the piece states: "Note: doubly terminated quartz: RARE. Very fine association. Good specimen." Valued at $1000-1500 for rarity and very high aesthetic quality.
