Item Description

Fine quality fluorite and quartz combinations are RARE from the historic mines of the Annaberg District. Very interesting and unusual fluorite cubes are aesthetically set on the mounded uncommon quartz crystal matrix on this sculptural and excellent old-timer. The bi-colored, lustrous, translucent cubes, with pretty mint-green interiors and nifty lavender corners, have frosted faces. The impressive interpenetrating cubes at the crest are 4.5 x 4.5 cm. A very fine complete all-around 360-degree specimen, that is nearly pristine, with only a gently bruised frontal corner to the large cube. Very minimal impact to such a rare old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3204 and acquired from prominent East Coast dealer, John Albanese, probably in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Formerly in the John Pearse Collection (1842-1914), a prominent metallurgist and mining engineer. He purchased a 5000-piece collection in 1865 while at the Freiberg Mining Academy and his son sold this collection to Harvard. A rare, important, historic and excellent old fluorite and quartz combination from Annaberg with a fine provenance.
