Item Description

An ULTRA-RARE and outstanding combination from the early days of silver mining in the famous San Juan Mountains of Colorado! This very fine piece is from the Eagle Mine in Saguache County. A 3.5 cm section of two intergrown sharp, juicy grass-green, lustrous and translucent etched fluorite octahedrons are dramatically perched atop the matrix of pretty pastel-pink, saddle-shaped rhodochrosite rhombs. The rhodos are accented with VERY RARE rose quartz crystals, to 1.9 cm and smaller fluorites. This striking San Juan combination rarity was formerly in the Scott Williams private collection (his label) and the Kay Robertson Collection # 1740. She acquired this piece from Scott in July, 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). The specimen is illustrated in the MINDAT photo gallery for the mine with a photograph by Rock Currier: https://www.mindat.org/photo-279348.html. Value of such a unique old Colorado combination rarity?? A MUST for the Colorado, species or locality collector!
