Item Description

The De'an Mine in China is one of the great Fluorite producers in the entire country, yielding excellent purple and green colored octahedral crystals, often on pleasing Quartz matrix. This piece is a distinctively different style than most you'll see, as it features a pair of gemmy purple crystals with a slight curvature to their octahedral faces, measuring up to 2.3 cm across, sitting on a layer of bubbly cream colored Quartz, but the best aspect of the piece is that the main Fluorite has a partial coating of Quartz, giving the appearance of a blanket or hood sitting on top. The Fluorites are fairly gemmy when backlit, and when you flip the piece over, you can see massive green and purple Fluorite underneath. No major damage, though the tip of the smaller Fluorite is not 100% complete. A showy and certainly desirable example of these unique and certainly distinguishing Fluorites.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#735 R), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
