Fluorite (twinned crystals)

Item Description

Striking plate of satin to glassy luster, translucent to transparent, intergrown cubes of classic purple Frazer's Hush Fluorite sitting on a contrasting thin seam of white Quartz. The majority of the Fluorites are gemmy with only a few exhibiting minor internal white cloudiness typical of the locale. The piece is filled with numerous interpenetration twins that have micrometer stepped growth striations or vicinal faces. These features are highlighted as the light reflects off of the faces. There is edge wear noted that impacts a couple of the exterior crystals but all of the interior Fluorites are complete and in great condition. Like most Fluorites from the area, they perform a color change in different temperature lighting as well as have strong UV fluorescence. In daylight they radiate a vivid violet color. A neat accent to the piece are several individual crystals of Galena that are sprinkled around the edges and at the base of a few Fluorite cubes. A lovely example of the classic Fluorites from this famous locality. Ex Paul Zerfass Collection #102. This is old material, generally from the 1800s, and with a few finds in the early 1900s adding to old stashes. Specimens like this with strong color and great luster are quite rare on the market.
