Item Description

A fantastic OLD TIME Fluorite specimen from Stolberg in Saxony, Germany featuring sharp, well-formed, cubic crystals of Fluorite associated with Chalcopyrite on matrix. One side of the specimen shows soft blue color, gemmy / translucent Fluorites measuring up to 2.0 cm, while the other side hosts Fluorite crystals with a soft reddish color (caused by iron content) measuring up to 9 mm. Each side of the piece looks completely different, a "split personality" specimen. The most significant aspect of this piece is that it is accompained by an old hand-written label from the famous Deyrolle natural history shop in Paris! The label is certainly 100+ years old, and since it has a 46 Rue Du Bac address, it could date as far back as 1881! Deyrolle is an institution in Europe, and as far as I can tell, it looks like it's still open today If you'd like to read about the history of the shop check out the following link on the Mineralogical Record website ( https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=303 ). Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7665). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
