Fluorite (unique habit)

Item Description

A really attractive cabinet display specimen of what is was labeled "Kugelfluorit" = Spherical Fluorite in Kurt's collection catalogue. The piece features a predominant, 5.7 cm, highly modified cluster of pastel purple and green colored Fluorite creating a largely spherical shape, aesthetically perched atop partially etched, fibrous, off-white Quartz matrix. Additionally smaller Fluorites can be seen on the matrix, for a nice touch. When backlit, the Fluorite "sphere" is translucent, and the mixture of colors within is really interesting, as you can see there are "layers" where the soft green and purple hues overlap. No damage, outside of the matrix, where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A very showy piece, which actually sits on its own without the aid of a base or clay.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#647 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
