Item Description

Surprising and excellent two-sided combination material from this well-known extinct mine in a famous and historic German lead-fluorite mining district. Intergrown, typical for the locale, classic, glassy, transparent to translucent, fern-green fluorite cubes form the sculptural front of the plate. The cubes, to 3.2 cm, are highlighted by preferential hematite coatings and inclusions, adding color and character. The hematite crust on the back is strikingly different! Here we see scattered clusters of creamy, coated dolomite rhombs dramatically accented by a single, sharp, 1.4 cm, gemmy tabular barite crystal! Very showy and unusual two-sided combination material from this mine. Purple fluorite and yellowish-white barite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3699 and acquired in Europe in 1964. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
