Item Description

Mineral specimens from this obscure old Weardale lead mine, worked between 1818-1878 and later for fluorite, 1900-1948 are RARE (MINDAT). A very glassy, gemmy gray-green fluorite cube is richly peppered with VERY RARE sharp brown siderite rhombs on this EXTREMELY RARE and excellent combination. Rich purple fluorescence. Comes with an old handwritten label with the correct locality dated July, 1924 and an incorrect label from noted German dealer F. Krantz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6694 and purchased from Dave Wilber in 1972. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
