Item Description

Here we have a classic old time specimen of Fluorite with Quartz from an undisclosed locality in Saxony. This piece features a few cubic crystals of rich blue and purple colored Fluorite which are dotted by small, brownish colored bi-pyramdial Quartz crystals free of matrix. When backlit, you can see some fine "phantom" zoning when the piece is viewed from certain angles. I would say this piece is an antique as it is most likely 100+ years old, but it's not damage free as you can see from the photos. It would make a very nice addition to any Fluorite suite or a collection of German classics. If anybody out there has some insight as to a more specific locality for this piece, please drop us a line and let us know. The piece comes from Brian Lloyd of London, one of the preeminent European mineral dealers. Among other accomplishments, Brian was responsible for bringing the Sir Robert Ferguson collection to market, along with the Joseph Neeld collection (1789-1856) in 1974 and the historic gold collection of H.S. Gordon. Brian famously purchased the historic dealership formerly known as J.R. Gregory & Company - today known as Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd. The catalogue number on this specimen is 920.
