Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of Fluorite from the mysterious "Silver Wing Mine" in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. I found one listing for a Silver Wing Mine on Glacier Mountain in the USGS Montezuma Quadrangle in Colorado, but I'm not sure if it's the same locality. The label states that the piece was collected by Laura Morey in 1961, so it obviously came with a bit of verified documentation. Sharp, gemmy, soft bluish-green colored stacked cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 6 mm associated with small gemmy, white/colorless Calcite scalenohedra on matrix. The matrix is a bit layered / brecciated, showing some vug like openings filled with crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9626). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
