Fluorite with Galena

Item Description

A wonderful association specimen from the Beihilfe Mine in the in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) of Germany. This small cabinet display specimen features classic, soft golden-yellow colored cubic crystals of Fluorite with good, sharp, defined faces along with excellent luster and fine internal gemminess measuring up to 1.7 cm on edge, associated with contrasting, silvery colored, metallic groups of modified cuboctahedral Galena crystals. The largest Galena group measures 3.3 cm across. The front/display side of the piece is in superb condition, with no major damage I can find. The reverse side of the specimen features a small vug filled with highly resinous, dark reddish-brown (nearly black) crystals of Sphalerite for a nice touch. Fine quality and highly desirable. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#41 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
