Item Description

Superb large tabular crystals of Fluoro-richterite, not Actinolite, are richly set in the calcite matrix on this dramatic large two-sided specimen from this well-known roadcut locality. Incorrectly identified, both species are members of the Amphibole Supergroup. Some of the crystals are sharply terminated, including the largest, 4.8 cm and the broadest, 3.8 x 2.7 cm. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6055 and acquired from well-known Canadian, South African and English dealer, Prosper Williams in Toronto in 1969. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Pink calcite fluorescence. An outstanding and large older combination from this locale.
