Item Description

A really cool fossilized piece of raw ivory from Alaska. The piece is not polished as far as I can tell, but it does show beautiful internal structure. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand-written label from Wulff, but doesn't say what species it's from. I've seen pieces of carved ivory from Alaska that sell for thousands of dollars, but I honestly don't know the value of an historic, un-carved specimen like this.
