Item Description

A very sharp and incredibly well-formed single crystal of jet black Gadolinite-(Y) from the and undisclosed lcoality in Frikstad area in Norway (though is certaily could be from thee Slobrekka Mine / Pegmatite). The piece textbook monoclinic form with sharp and smooth faces and almost greasy luster in areas. Good quality crystals of this well-known species are hard to find on the market, especially from the old localities in Scandanavia. A very worthwhile and attractive specimen for any collector of European minerals or fans of well-formed single crystals. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #353) with a label from A. Citran. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
