Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Galena from this somewhat obscure locality in the just on the northern side of Alberta in the Northwest Territories in Canada. The piece shows beautiful metallic silvery appearance, along with sharp dodecahedral crystal faces and beautiful slight "hoppered" or skeletal growth. It's a little rough around the edges, but in good shape overall, and certainly worth picking up for any sulfide collector, a thumbnail collector or a collector of Canadian minerals. Interestingly, this is a Mississippi Valley type deposit, resembling those around the "tri-state" area in the United States i.e., Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, which produced similar species, e.g., Galena, Calcite, Dolomite, Chalcopyrite etc. The Pine Point area covers around 750 square miles, so you would think that there should be more of these pieces around.
