Item Description

Artistically placed galena crystals form a dramatically sculptural old-timer from the Eagle Picher Mine of the renowned Tri-State District. The highly lustrous and highly modified battleship-gray cuboctahedrons have both striking smooth stepped faces and etched faces. The stunning crestal crystal is 2.8 cm across. Galena is RARE from this mine, as MINDAT does not list the species for the locality. The form of the chert matrix and the single sphalerite crystal at the middle of the bottom add much character to the outstanding and pristine old-timer from the Don Owens Collection. Don was the Chief Geologist at the old Union Carbide vanadium mine in Arkansas and we recently obtained his collection. Valued at $750-900 for high quality, rarity, aesthetics and richness. The piece displays very well without aid.
