Item Description

A sculptural intergrown cluster of lustrous, sharp, metallic-gray galena cubes is aesthetically set on the pebble sandstone matrix. The imposing large cube is 1.4 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm. This rich, excellent and uncommon specimen is from an extinct open pit Pb-Zn-Cu mine, that was abandoned in 1969 (MINDAT). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4956 and acquired from Dietrich in a trade in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Specimens of this quality are rare and are seldom available.
