Item Description

Some of the most well-known examples of "Spinel-Law" Twinned Galenas are those from Dalnegorsk, Russia. This mining district has produced some of the best crystallized examples of well-known sulfide for a few decades now, and they will go down as classics in terms of their size and quality. This cabinet sized display specimen is a very fine quality, showy and eye-catching piece featuring several excellent, sharp, splendent, silvery, metallic crystals of Galena featuring the classic "Spinel-Law" twinning habit measuring up to 2.3 cm across. There are a few unusual (etched?) brassy colored crystals of Pyrrhotite on the piece and the matrix features intermixed Quartz and Sphalerite. Small golden Siderites can be seen dotting the Galena twins for a great touch. These crystals were incredibly difficult to photograph, and trust me when I saw the piece looks better in person. It's a very aesthetic display specimen, and actually comes from a very recent find (2018) which produced some of the best quality Galena twins we've seen from the locality in many years. Priced at $1,250 in our inventory.
