Galena with Acanthite (rare locality specimen)

Item Description

This is a notably hard to find piece from Darwin, California, featuring silvery metallic Galena associated with dark grey Acanthite. The labels accompanying the piece state that this is Galena with Argentite, but please note that Acanthite and Argentite are paramorphs. Acanthite will actually transform into Argentite in an environment where the temperature reaches above 177 degrees Celsius, but at standard temperatures, it's always Acanthite. There is a listing on mindat.org from Daniel Evanich that states the Galena specimens from this area are silver-bearing, which stands to reason as based upon the Acanthite association.
