Galena with Chalcopyrite and Quartz

Item Description

Classic Bulgaria specimen of lustrous, metallic, silver grey Galena crystals on a needle Quartz matrix with associated Chalcopyrite, although with unusually subtle and machinelike details to the galena crystals. The Galena exhibits modified cubic crystal forms with many of them showing a unique skeletal growth habit. The crystals have well-defined skeletal ("hoppered") growth, which is characteristic of this locality, though rarely seen in Galena from almost anywhere else in the world. There are also a few parallel-growth, stepped-growth spinel-twinned Galena crystals, to 1.7 cm. The Galenas are in excellent condition with a sawn base for display. A great example of this unique skeletal habit from Madan. A very earlier specimen from the Paul Zerfass Collection labelled as number 3 from the collection, obtained in trade for self collected French material.
