Galena with Pyrite on Tetrahedrite and Quartz

Item Description

Magnificent eye-catching multi-mineral combination specimen of sparkling, metallic, highly lustrous silvery Galena and bright golden Pyrite crystals with some associated Quartz. Looking at this dazzling piece with its varying mineralogy and textural forms shows the results of a very a complex history. The base mineral for this 360 degree piece is the mirror bright silvery Galena with the underneath side showing the typical stepped growth, cubic crystal form. However, the top display side shows a very different possibly later developed crystal habit of individual Galena crystals with modify corners. There are also contrasting well formed striated golden Pyrite cubes across the piece, as well as several "triangular" golden metallic forms that visual standout. These are labelled as Chalcopyrite by the previous owner - and a couple of them do have that typical brassy color look to them. However, upon closer inspection, many look to be covered with tiny obviously Pyrite cubic crystals that would have formed a cast over an existing crystal, presumably Tetrahedrite. Extremely cool crystal morphology here! Whether these are casts or complete pseudomorphs is unknown without breaking one open, but they are very unique for the Madan Bulgaria location and add a definite "bling" to the specimen. The piece is near-pristine with only a couple of minor incomplete tiny secondary Quartz crystals that are not impactful. Overall a simply spectacular combination specimen that is enhanced by its high metallic luster and varying crystal shapes giving it depth and a visually stimulating appeal. Weight - 4 lbs. Ex.
