Garnet ('floater' crystal) (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

Item Description

A fine quality, razor-sharp, lustrous, "floater" dodecahedral crystal of Garnet from an unspecified locality in Chihuahua, Mexico. If I had to guess, it's likely that this crystal is either Andradite or Grossular, but it's impossible to know without chemical analysis. The piece is complete on all sides, fully crystallized, with only a few slight imperfections. The color is a pastel brownish-green, like a softer army green hue, but it's not a solid color, as there are lighter colored streaks running through the piece. A really interesting and large crystal for any fan of worldwide Garnets. It should be noted that this crystal measures over 2 inches, which is rare for Garnet in general, but even crystals this size are rarely as sharp and lustrous as this one. Specimen weight is 187.31 grams. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
