Item Description

Gaudefroyite is an extremely rare manganese borate that is rarely seen in fine crystals. The best examples of the species are found in the Kalahari Manganese Field, often associated with Andradite Garnet. This specimen features several good quality, sharp AND lustrous, prismatic black crystals of Gaudefroyite measuring up to 9 mm associated with tiny reddish colored crystals of Andradite and a few "pagoda"-esque shaped crystal of black Hausmannite. It should be noted that the dealer label accompanying the piece states that Ettringite is present, but I can't find any. A good piece for any rarities collector or a fan of South African minerals.
