Item Description

A rare example of the butterfly-twinned, gemmy Calcites that sometimes were found in the Wessels Mine,. This is from the Charlie Key collection, from the 1980s. The luster is superb, and the Calcite is perfectly gemmy save for the well-defined Manganite phantoms and the first-generation gray Calcite that it grows on. The crystal is well-terminated at the top in a butterfly twin. The base is contacted, and there is Manganite on part of the back, making it an even more interesting combination. Aesthetic, and very interesting for a twin from an offbeat calcite locale
