Item Description

A striking, 3.3 cm, doubly terminated barite crystal is aesthetically attached to the end of the scuptural sandstone matrix on this very fine matrix small cabinet from the famous Book Cliffs. The very glassy colorless crystal has water-clear terminations and a translucent mid-section. The terminations are dramaically different, with the multiple spearpoints at the top and the single chisel termination at the bottom. Essentially pristine, with only a very trivial, hard to see bruise, to the basal termination. Ex Francesco Bedogne Collection # 503 and purchased in April, 1976. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. These are some of the finest US barites and this is an exeptional older one with fine artistic quality and form.
