Item Description

A glorious, gem, emerald-green, color-zoned, 1.9 cm, penetration-twinned fluorite pair from this well-known extinct limestone quarry, closed in 2002. It is the third source, along with the Heights Quarry and Rogerley Mine, of classic emerald-green fluorite in Weardale (MINDAT). The twin is nicely set on limestone matrix and is surrounded by smaller cubes and a couple more penetration twins. The beautiful twin is pristine, and the noted bruising to smaller crystals is certainly only a modest detraction to this fine and highly representative penetration twin. Purple fluorescence under any lighting conditions! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5636 and acquired from Scott Williams at the Costa Mesa Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
