Gem Tanzanite Crystal (16.5 carats)

Item Description

A classic, colorful, gemmy and shapely tanzanite thumbnail crystal from recent finds. The untreated crystal exhibits classic blue/purple pleochroism which can be seen by rotating the crystal 90 degrees to see the color change. The frontal views of this sharp chisel-shaped crystal are a pleasing blue and the end-on views are violet-purple. Rich red is visible down the C-axis. The crystal is mostly water-clear and there is little internal crazing. Complete all-around. Part of one corner is bruised at the base and is certainly only a modest detraction. A classic and excellent Merelani tanzanite, that is definitely gemmier than most in this size and price range! 16.5 carats or 3.3 grams mass.
