Item Description

A glorious, classic, rich amber gemmy tabular barite crystal from this famous Katanga copper mine. The mostly water-clear blade has fabulous phantoms mimicking the sculptural spear point crystal form. The contrasting bluish-white accessory mineral is chrysocolla. Most of the prism edges are contacts or cleaves, but this remains a striking, beautiful and uncommon example of the species and locale, probably from the early 1990s finds. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12122. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
