Item Description

(PLEASE NOTE CORRECTION TO SIZE - THE DESCRIPTION HERE IN TEXT WAS ALWAYS CORRECT, BUT THE WEIGHT PREVIOUSLY GIVEN IN THE HEADING WAS A COPY-PASTE ERROR)

A dramatic, beautiful and deceptive trigonal, bi-colored tourmaline from the 2012 finds at the Malkhan pegmatites. The eye-dropping translucent lightly etched pyramidal termination is a gorgeous orangey-pink dramatically accented by a dark purple tip and beautiful cranberry-red edges. The termination GLOWS, when back lit! The body behind the highly lustrous well-striated prism faces looks to be opaque, BUT backlighting reveals it is actually a gemmy layered golden-yellow with a darker outer rind! Two of the prism faces are densely lightly frosted/etched and the bit of snow-white albite at the base is a super accent and contrast. Complete all-around and pristine. 85 grams mass. See the excellent article about the find in the July/August, 2013 issue of Rocks & Minerals. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $145, for free. A superlative and uncommon bi-colored example from the find. Valued at $2000 for sharpness, rarity and quality.
