Item Description

Marcasite is RARE from the famed Elmwood Mine. Tiny marcasites are richly peppered in the interior and form a striking layered phantom on this beautiful, very glassy, lustrous, colorful and sharply formed mult-hued calcite scalenohedron. The gem termination has the desirable golden-amber color. The marcasite phantom layer separates the termination from a water-clear colorless section. The base of the crystal is a variable pleasing transparent to tranlucent yellowish-white. The shard of barite on one side is a super accent. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a slight cleave to the tip. Ex Kay Robertson Collection with no number. Kay purchased a selection of Elmwood calcites in the 1980s or 90s and this is an exceptional and RARE combination example.
