Gemmy Tanzanite (62.15 carats)

A dramatic spearpoint-shaped, gemmy and lustrous, tabular tanzanite crystal from recent finds at Merelani. Most of the glassy, highly lustrous, striated crystal is quite gemmy. The untreated crystal exhibits classic pleochrosim. The frontal views of this crystal are a pleasing blue and the end-on views are violet-purple. The C-axis shot shows the classic red color. The internal crazing adds character and gives the piece a striking visual aspect. Complete all-around and in excellent shape. One side is contacted, has a bit of attached matrix, but there is little actural damage. A classic, very shapely and excellent full-sized Merelani tanzanite thumbnail. 62.15 carats or over 12 grams mass. Valued at $800-1000.
