Item Description

Germanite is one of the many rare species for which famed Tsumeb is the Type Locality. A rare Cu-Fe-Ge sulfide, it was discovered in deep areas of the mine in 1922 along with other rare species. Areas of lustrous metallic grayish-pink germanite are a highlight, as are areas covered with green malachite, a fine contrast and accessory. This massive, sculptural essentially solid germanite ore specimen is probably from Level 37 at Tsumeb, deep in its third oxidation zone. This region was noted for its incredible wealth of very rare elements and minerals containing Germanium, among others. An excellent and rich example of the species and locale. Hefty ore at 678 grams mass.
